It’s the back alleys of Kyoto where you’ll have any chance of spotting a Geisha.  The houses where they train are clustered in a couple areas, but unless you know what you’re looking for, you’ll walk right by.  I highly suggest taking a half day walking tour of the type offered by your hostel.
