It is unfortunate to hear that, but at least he had his rail ticket signed to save the day. We were likewise fortunate to have insurance cover almost everything without question and without depreciation.

The sad thing about having this happen is that we have heard so many horror stories from others who had similar issues come up. But, the good news is that by talking about it and putting it out there other travelers will be a bit wiser for it.

I always hate to hear these stories. Getting fall-down drunk in general (especially on your own) just seems like a bad idea when away from home and friends. Glad to hear he got his ticket signed.

I guess the silver lining is always learning from other's experiences.

Gah! Sorry for your loss but thanks for the tips. A friend was robbed at gun point while we were backpacking Portugal. Leassons learned from that - don't get fall down drunk while holding your passport and euro rail ticket on you and colour copy your docs! He was able to get his rail ticket signed and saved a fortune!
